Born in Akron, Ohio ( a very long time ago), Trudy has spent
all of her life in the Akron-Canton area. She is the oldest
of four children, having two younger sisters and a brother.
Trudy has spent her whole life in education-related
activities.
After graduating from
Tallmadge High School (also a long time ago), she attended
Ashland College where she received a Bachelor of Science in
Education degree. She taught first and second grade in
Tallmadge until she married and had her first child, a son
named Troy. She soon enrolled in graduate school at Akron
University and began substitute teaching. She earned her
educational certification in the fields of learning
disabilities and behavior disorders before her second son,
Trent, was born. Trudy enjoyed tutoring students privately.
When her daughter, Taryn, was born, Trudy stayed home for a
few years, enjoying the children.
In 1979, Trudy began her
career with the North Canton City Schools. Beginning as a
tutor of children with learning disabilities, Trudy worked
at Orchard Hill and Northwood Schools. She spent a year as
the psychologists' assistant before moving to Hoover High
School as a teacher of students with learning and behavior
disabilities. She enjoyed her 7 years in the classroom.
During these years she completed a Master of Arts in
Education degree from the College of Mount St. Joseph.
Additional coursework at the University of Akron allowed for
the completion of a supervision certificate.
In 1989, Trudy became the
Director of Special Education Programs for the North Canton
City Schools, a job she held until she retired in 1999.
Afterwards, she worked as a consultant for the Stark County
Educational Service Center, assigned to the Marlington Local
Schools. She also taught a course at Malone College and
supervised student teachers for Walsh University.
Trudy and her two younger
children joined Faith United Methodist Church in May, 1989.
Since that time she has served in many ways. She has enjoyed
teaching an adult Sunday School class, singing in the
Chancel Choir, teaching Disciple Bible Study, coordinating
the Alpha course, being a lay leader, and chairing several
boards and committees. She is very excited and humbled to
have been named Director of Christian Education.
Trudy is very proud of her
three children, all of whom have graduated from college and
are gainfully employed. She is less proud of her Dalmatian,
who continues to try her patience. Trudy loves to walk for
fitness, garden, knit, attend theater/music events, and
read. She admits to having a weakness for chocolate. She
looks forward to getting to know more of the members of the
Faith Church community.
