The Cookery

The Cookery has been a busy place in December 2003. Thanks to all of you in Faith Church we have this great facility to work in and reach out to many people.

December 4 we were honored to serve the East Ohio Bishop Keaton and his cabinet their Christmas dinner. We served prime rib and all the fixings. It was an exciting and fun evening for all.

Other activities have been a lunch served to the Board of Ordained Ministry and three gatherings following funerals.

Second Wind met for their Christmas meeting on December 9 and Asbury Fellowship was served their Christmas dinner on December 13.

December 14 the Youth Mission Team, under the direction of Butch Ransom, hosted a carry-in dinner. Ham was prepared in the Cookery. Christmas spirits were raised by singing carols and the youth playing handbells. It was a wonderful family evening, enjoyed by all.

We also delivered many meals to shut-ins and folks just home from the hospital. We make soup and Gwen Guiher delivers it when making calls. Thank you, Gwen.

The final event before Christmas was an open house for our church staff.

Thank you all who have helped in the Cookery in December and throughout the year. A good job done, all you faithful servants.

Some of you inquired about the pumpkin pancakes served at the November 23 brunch. I put this recipe together myself and I want to thank Charlotte Heller, our pancake maker for the brunch.

Happy New Year—see you in 2004!

Mary Jane Fletcher

1 teaspoon soda

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon mace (or nutmeg)

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 cups apples, chopped

This cake is even better a day or two later. It travels well, slices easily and stays moist for several days. Add a cup of chopped pecans or walnuts if you like. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
