Adults! We need your help leading our children. Please contact Jan Heighway to volunteer! Teachers needed for May

Around the World Camp

Hey, kids! Summer Sunday school for ages 4 and up is all new this year!  Starting June 1st, we’ll be visiting a new country every week during summer Sunday school.  As we learn about God and the Bible, we’ll also experience food, crafts, and games from each country. We are planning some other surprises!
                          Here’s the June schedule:
June 1 – Mexico        June 22 – Africa
June 8 – Ireland        June 29 – Italy
June 15 – China

Here are the things that we need:
 - Helpers! We need teens and adults to help the children learn the memory verses, do the crafts, etc.  Maybe your whole family could volunteer for one week!
- If anyone in the congregation has decorative items from these places that we could borrow, we’d love it.
- It would be great if a family or group would like to volunteer to bring or prepare the snack for a specific week. See Trudy or Jan Heighway to volunteer.

Parents as Partners

A story in USA Today cites a study that says “spirituality is a major contributor to a child’s overall happiness – even more so than for adults.”  A study of 315 children aged 9 to 12 was done by the University of British Columbia. It measured spirituality and such things as temperament and social relationships.  It was known that in adults, spiritual feelings and higher levels of religious behavior typically account for about 5% of a person’s overall happiness. The researchers were amazed to find that 6.5 to 16.5% of children’s happiness can be accounted for by spirituality.  Children themselves rated questions such as “I feel a higher power’s presence,” and “how often do you pray or meditate outside of church?” Parents and teachers also rated the children.

We know that children are NOT too immature to develop spirituality. That’s why regular church attendance and carrying faith activities into the home are so important.

Another hint from Children’s Ministry Magazine: Parents need to “let go” and simply be present with their children without an agenda. Therapist Royce Frazier has found that when parents stop trying so hard, they actually are more successful in relating to each other and their children. Now doesn’t that sound freeing?

Vacation Bible School

Power Lab: Discovering
Jesus' Miraculous Power

It’s here!  It’s time to sign up to volunteer to help at our Power Lab Vacation Bible School, July 14-18. VBS runs from 9:00-11:30 a.m. on these days.  We need 90-100 volunteers.  (We are especially interested in having a couple of men volunteer to be crew leaders for our 5th-6th Survivor Challenge crews.)  Look for the giant test-tube guy (“Fizz”) in the gathering area.  Anyone going into 7th grade can help.  There is no upper age limit!

It’s also time to register the children to attend Power Lab.  Look for the bright green form in this issue of Faith Notes.  Additional registration forms are at the VBS display and in the church office. Let’s fill the church!
